Minority Mental Health Awareness

July is Minority Mental Health Awareness Month!

Who you are is not a character flaw. There is no shame in reaching out for help with treatment. Marginalized, oppressed, and disenfranchised people have unique concerns, trauma, stress, obstacles, and challenges because of historical experiences, cultural differences, and social disparities.

Thankfully, Mental Health is a topic that is now becoming a lot more acceptable to be spoken about in the mainstream.

YET, for those from a minority / underprivileged background, it is still very much taboo subject.

So many variables to consider from the traumatic upbringings many young people go through....did you know a person growing up in an underprivileged area can suffer the same levels of PTSD as someone coming back from war?!

...To have to put on a 'front' as though they have it all together, but behind the scenes, they don't.

KEY TAKEAWAYS:

• It's okay not to be okay
• Friends are like seasons, they come and go in life
• Toxic masculinity is often due to unprocessed traumas
• Be a FRIEND
• You are 100% responsible for yourself and your emotions, not for others.
• Find a group of people that support you in your pursuits (even if they are online!)
